The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have so far managed to secure two wins in as many matches of the ongoing IPL 2026.
In the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), RCB's Impact Player, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-devdutt-padikkal-earns-praise-from-rcb-batting-coach-dinesh-karthik-after-half-century-vs-csk-23624386" rel="nofollow">Devdutt Padikkal</a>, played a knock of 61 runs in 26 balls, including seven boundaries and four maximums. Later in the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the left-handed batsman smashed 50 runs off 29 deliveries, laced with five boundaries and two maximums.
Speaking about his knocks, he stated that a player needs those failures to remind him how much harder he needs to work.
"When things didn't go well, I didn't have answers. But that phase gave me that motivation and that fire to get better. Sometimes you need those failures along your journey to remind you how much harder you need to work," he said.
Further speaking, the cricketer said that he decided to change certain things when he got the opportunity to represent <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-csk-skipper-ruturaj-gaikwad-blames-himself-for-the-loss-against-rcb-23624468" rel="nofollow">RCB</a> yet again.
"When I got the opportunity with RCB again, I decided there were a lot of things I needed to change; I needed to really commit to working on those things regardless of what the outcome may be. It's not easy when you've grown up playing a certain way. I could have easily accepted that I'll stick to test cricket, but it was important for me to come out of that comfort zone and try to adapt," said the 25-year-old cricketer.
The Kerala-born cricketer then said he has reached the stage of maturity where he understands what things he needs to do to bring his 'A-game'.
"In 2020-2021, I was a lot more scared as a young kid coming in. I feel over the years I've learned to handle everything that goes around in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-rr-vs-mi-live-will-jofra-archer-aim-pierce-through-hitman-rohit-sharma-defence-23624532" rel="nofollow">IPL</a>. At this point, I've reached a stage of maturity where I understand what I need to do to be at my best. And I feel a lot calmer and more composed, and I'm really happy at where I am, and I'm really enjoying my cricket," said Paddikal.
RCB will now lock horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 10 at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
