In the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-david-miller-last-over-error-costs-delhi-capitals-the-match-against-gujarat-titans-23624999" rel="nofollow">IPL 2026</a> match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious by three wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
During the match, LSG's skipper Rishabh Pant managed to score just 10 runs in nine balls, including a boundary.
Following the poor batting display, former Team India cricketer Mohammad Kaif feels that the time when Pant came to bat in the match was not difficult.
"The team needed him to stay till the end. He is an experienced player, having been in the IPL since 2016. The situation when he came out to bat was not particularly difficult. LSG had already scored 41 in the first five overs. One batter needed to take responsibility and bat through the chase. That role was meant for Pant," he said on Star Sports.
Further speaking, the former cricketer said that the left-handed batsman needs to learn the match situation and play accordingly.
"As captain, if you don't take responsibility, you cannot help your team win games. Yes, he did well against <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-srhs-heinrich-klaasen-says-he-is-not-worried-about-poor-record-against-csk-23624835" rel="nofollow">SRH</a>, but he needs to find consistency. Playing one good knock and then failing in the next few games is not enough. He has to read the match situation better and learn when to shift gears. A captain's job is to stay till the end in a chase, and that is something Pant must work on," said Kaif.

In the IPL 2026, Lucknow recently registered a thrilling victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Having put to bat first, KKR posted a total of 181 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane delivered an exceptional knock of 41 runs in 24 balls, including four boundaries and two maximums. Fellow opening batsman Finn Allen scored nine runs in eight balls, with the help of two boundaries.
Wicketkeeper-batsman <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-former-cricketers-heap-praise-on-nitish-kumar-reddy-and-angkrish-raghuvanshi-23623952" rel="nofollow">Angkrish Raghuvanshi</a> accumulated 45 runs in 33 balls, laced with five boundaries and two maximums. Rinku Singh departed after scoring four runs in seven balls.
Cameron Green and Rovman Powell stayed unbeaten. Green amassed 32 runs off 24 balls, including three boundaries and a maximum, whereas Powell smashed 39 runs in 24 balls, with the help of four boundaries and two maximums.
Lucknow's Prince Yadav, M Siddharth, Digvesh Rathi, and Avesh Khan picked up one wicket each. Mohammed Shami went wicketless in the IPL 2026 match against KKR.
In the second essay of the game, Impact Player, Ayush Badoni delivered a knock of 54 runs off 34 balls, including seven boundaries and two maximums. Later, Mukul Choudhary garnered an unbeaten 54 runs in 27 balls, including two boundaries and seven maximums.
With this, the visitors chased the target by scoring 182 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
Kolkata's Vaibhav Arora and Anukul Roy bagged two wickets each. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/sports/cricket/article/ipl-2026-harbhajan-singh-believes-rahane-should-have-bowled-narine-against-rohit-sharma-23623335" rel="nofollow">Sunil Narine</a>, Kartik Tyagi, and Green claimed one wicket each.
