Mere Dost Picture Abhi Baki Hai is a drag.
Several filmmakers have recreated the real happenings behind the gloss and glitter in Bollywood for their projects. Here’s one more attempt that tells you the story behind the story that unravels on the screen. It could have been a slice-of-life but the need to make it a masala fare infused with the usual clichés makes it a drag.
There is a Mr Wannabe Director (Shetty) who runs a video library in Benares and dreams of making it big in B-Town. On his arrival in Mumbai, he is gung-ho with a bound script looking for the big break. His buddy Mr Wannabe Star (Rajpal Yadav) helps facilitate meetings with prospective producers. Along come a K Fixation filmmaker, a Mr South who only believes in remakes, a certain Mr Crotch Catcher who otherwise mouths expletives and a Mr Underworld who wears a starlet around his shoulders. There’s also a Mummyji and a Ms Item Girl thrown in…. It’s clear to the Mr Wannabe Director that his film might just never see light of day.
