Bramayugam

Mammootty essays the role of Kodumon Potti, the mysterious owner of a mansion where Thevan, a folk singer who flees slavery and accidentally takes refuge only to get trapped in darkness, secrets, and supernatural forces. It is a psychological horror thriller rooted in Kerala’s folklore and feudal past.

Puzhu

Mammootty essays the role of Kuttan, a Brahmin widower and senior IPS officer, resides in a lavish apartment with his son Kichu. He wants his father dead, but is suppressed by his authoritarian and overprotective demeanor. Kuttan grows anxious and suspicious of everyone around him as he starts to believe that someone is planning his murder.

Mathilukal

Mammootty made a mark with his performance as Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, a writer who falls in love with a lady voice he hears from the women`s jail during the period of imprisonment. Though they never see each other, they converse, exchange feelings, and fall in love through the barrier.

Thaniyavarthanam

The actor stole the show as Balan Mash, a school teacher whom the family and friends suspected to be a mental patient after his uncle’s death, who suffered illness, assuming that it is hereditary and will inevitably affect the next generation.

Vidheyan

In this 1994 adaptation of Paul Zachariya’s novella, directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mammootty played the cruel landlord Bhaskara Pattelar. He is an aggressive, cruel landlord who kills his wife and rapes his slaves. The film and Mammootth’s role is considered as one of the all time best performances witnessed by Malayalam cinema. 

Thalapathi

In the film, ‘Thalapathi’ Mammootty played the character named Devaraj and Rajinikanth played the role of Surya. The plot of the film was actually based on the friendship between the characters in the Hindu epic, ‘Mahabharata’ that is, Karna and Duryodhana. He even managed to overshadow his co-star, superstar Rajinikanth with his exceptional screen presence.

Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha

Mammootty stunned the audiences with his mind-blowing performance as the historical character Chathiyan Chandi. Traditionally portrayed as a traitor in the Vadakkan Pattukal ballads, the film reimagines Chandu as a misunderstood warrior Directed by Hariharan, the film surely takes the lead when it comes to the best Malayalam periodic movies.

The film released in 1990 is a Malayalam gangster drama directed by Jomon, featuring Mammootty as Alexander, a powerful underworld don. The film chronicles Alexander`s rise to power and the challenges he faces in balancing his criminal empire with personal relationships.

Amaram

Mammootty`s portrayal of Achootty, an uneducated fisherman, who aims to make his daughter as an IAS officer, completely conquered the minds of the audience. The character is considered as a masterpiece of Mammootty and a classic father role of Malayalam cinema.
