The rhythm in the air is divine this week as Enrique Iglesias returns to Mumbai after 21 years, set to perform on October 29 and October 30 before an audience who’ve travelled from across India to witness him live. This is special because for many Millennials, the Spanish singer-songwriter was their first introduction to English music; for others, love songs that made everything in a relationship feel dreamy, with butterflies in the stomach. In fact, the first-ever love song this writer learned on the guitar during his teenage years was ‘Hero’.
The influence of the Grammy Award winner’s influence not only on the world but also in India has not only in these little moments but also fond memories where many fans had to make a song request on radio or simply switch on the television and wait for his song to play on VH1’s playlist; for others, it was taking every opportunity to dial-up the local cable operator to cue the song, only to spend minutes thinking about their crush. While the singer did come to India in 2012, Mumbai wasn’t a part of the tour, and many Millennials were still learning how to save for music concerts, so this time around, they are ready to sing their hearts out. The timing couldn’t be better because even Enrique speaking to mid-day says, “It was only a matter of time, and I couldn’t be happier about it. India has such amazing fans -- their energy and love are truly extraordinary every time I perform here.”
