In a shocking incident, jewels were stolen from The Louvre, the world’s most-visited museum in broad daylight on Sunday, October 19. The heist has not only shaken the art world but also enthusiasts everywhere as the thieves managed to steal eight items under four minutes while there.
According to the Associated Press (AP) report, the thieves rode a basket lift upwards to the Louvre's facade, forced a window open, smashed display cases and fled with priceless Napoleonic jewels, officials said.
The report further said that the theft occurred about 30 minutes after the museum opened, with visitors already inside. It is also said to be among the highest-profile museum thefts in living memory.
It is even more surprising that it unfolded just 250 meters from the Mona Lisa by Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci, often regarded as one of the most famous paintings in the world.
