Back in 2004, when it first opened its doors, Gallery Beyond had attracted attention thanks to its experimental exhibitions as well as art camps, which made it a hub for contemporary young artists. Over the years, the 1,700 square feet gallery showcased modern Indian art, in the form of sculptures, paintings and drawings made from charcoal. Titled Up ToThe Nine, the exhibition will feature over 90 artists with a focus on the young artists that Gallery Beyond offered a platform to. It will include works by artists such as Prajakta Palav, KK Raghava, Minal Damani, Ratna Gupta, Preetha Kannan, and Manish Chavda. The show will take place at Jehangir Art Gallery as it is more spacious and can accomodate the large number of artworks. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/KK-Raghava.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 500px;" /> An artwork by KK Raghava The highlights are a new artwork by Bose Krishnamachari; Prajakta Palav&rsquo;s A Wall Unit, which won a prize at the first NGMA 2006 awards; the first imagery of the Panopticon series of Sudarshan Shetty; a rare canvas of NN Rimzon&rsquo;s done at a workshop in 2007; and The Book, a limited edition of prints by Yusuf Arakkal. <img alt="Vibhuraj Kapoor" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/Vibhuraj-Kapoor.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 300px;" /> Vibhuraj Kapoor Speaking about the exhibition, Vibhuraj Kapoor, Director of Gallery Beyond, says, &ldquo;The show will be special because of the display of 90-plus contemporary artists from almost all over the country; from the famous Bose Krishnamachari to young entrant Sanat. The works in this celebratory show comprise earlier works from shows and workshops; and some new contributions.&rdquo; While there wasn&rsquo;t any theme in particular for the exhibition, each artwork delves on contemporary themes such as social issues, environmental concerns and relationships. Kapoor adds that the gallery has always been at the forefront of promoting a newer lot of artists and will continue to do so. &ldquo;We have constantly focussed on the newer artists and have given them support,&rdquo; he adds. sSince &ldquo;nines&rdquo; are the muses in Greek mythology for art and sciences and nine was the number of levels in Dante&rsquo;s Journey to hell and resurrection, on its ninth anniversary, Gallery Beyond seeks to focus on celebrating its &ldquo;muses&rdquo; and seeks to re-invent itself.
