Mumbai-based fusion band Paradigm Shift, is all set to perform in the city today. Their music is an amalgamation of various genres of music, combining traditional Indian Classical music with contemporary Progressive Rock. The band comprises Kaushik Ramachandran (vocals), Chinmay Agharkar (guitar), Nikhil Nandakumar (violin), Ariel Samson (bass guitar) and Aamir Ismail Shaikh (drums). <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/Paradigm_shift_HiResa.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 485px;" /> Music band Paradigm Shift The Guide caught up with vocalist Kaushik Ramachandran about the band&rsquo;s journey so far and their upcoming performance. Excerpts from the interview: How it all began Five years ago when I was studying engineering, I met Nikhil and we got along really well. I had some original compositions and he had some ideas. We eventually decided to form a band. Earlier we were not sure about the number of members we would have but we got affiliated with good musicians with whom working was fun. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jun/kaushik.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 315px;" /> Vocalist Kaushik Ramachandranu00a0 As a band, we started from scratch but the band members&rsquo; frequency matched well together and we blended easily. We decided to dabble in various genres like Rock and Classical music, at the same time and that&rsquo;s also the reason behind the name Paradigm Shift. Rock both worlds Our band is inspired by several musicians including AR Rehman, Karsh Kale, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and the band Tool. Hindustani classical music is in our blood and I have a base in Carnatic Classical music. At the same time, we are a band of enthusiastic youngsters and love rocking the stage. Hence, we equally fit into the Rock world of music. We have been coming out with some good instrumental sounds as well thanks to our drummers, violinist and bass guitarists; without them the band is incomplete. Musical tribute We came out with our first album last year which got a really good response. We chose to release our singles on the Internet as it is an easily-reachable medium. We have released two tributes recently --- Roja and Quaid. Roja is the instrumental tribute to the king of music AR Rehman while Quaid is a special tribute to one of our favourite movies -- The Shawshank Redemption, for which we collaborated with musician Vishal J Singh. Double the fun The gig in Pune is going to be very special as we will be playing all the songs, right from our singles to tracks from the album for the crowd. Three songs from our album will be played in their original version but with a little acoustic addition.
