A candidate was held for an alleged bid to use stimulant during a Maharashtra Police recruitment drive in Thane district, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-52-year-old-man-injured-after-intruder-shoots-him-during-inside-his-house-in-palghar-probe-launched-23617957" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">officials</a> said, reported the PTI.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was taking part in a police recruitment drive and was arrested on Monday for allegedly attempting to take a stimulant before a field test in Thane district, police said.
The incident took place during the ongoing physical tests for police constable recruitment at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Maidan.
According to police, around 2,500 candidates had reported at the ground by 5am for the field test.
Sahil Shankar Ajveke, a resident of Baramati in Pune district, was allegedly seen trying to inject a stimulant into his body. A plainclothes drug squad patrolling the venue noticed his actions and immediately intervened, the Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police said in a statement, as per the PTI.
He was taken into custody and later underwent a medical examination at a government hospital.
<h2>Case registered under relevant laws</h2>
Police said a case has been registered at Bhayander <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-43-year-old-man-booked-for-cheating-students-father-of-rs-35-lakh-in-thane-with-promise-of-medical-college-admission-23617953" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Police</a> Station under provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Further investigation is underway, officials said.
<h2>Tight security and surveillance</h2>
Officials said the recruitment ground is under strict monitoring to ensure fairness and transparency. The MBVV police have deployed a dedicated team of 20 officers specifically for drug detection, as per the PTI.
Mobile medical units and doctors have also been stationed at the venue. In addition, the entire ground is being monitored through CCTV cameras and 69 handheld video cameras, the news agency reported.

A 43-year-old man has been booked in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/two-persons-abduct-youth-in-thane-demand-rs-5-lakh-ransom-from-friend-23617919" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra</a>'s Thane for allegedly cheating a medical store owner of Rs 35.42 lakh by promising to secure his son admission in a medical college under a so-called &ldquo;VIP quota&rdquo;, police said on Monday, reported the PTI.
According to the officials, an FIR was registered on February 22 against Balkum resident Prashant Mahajan. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Narpoli Police Station in Thane.
Sub-inspector Santosh Shinde said that the accused and the complainant knew each other.
Mahajan allegedly assured the victim that he could arrange admission for his son to a medical college through a VIP quota.
Trusting him, the medical store owner paid Rs 35.42 lakh in several instalments. However, the promised admission did not materialise.
After waiting for some time and realising that no seat had been secured, the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint.
<h2>Cops launch probe</h2>
Police have started an investigation into the matter, said an official.
The accused has not yet been arrested, and further enquiries are ongoing, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-metro-line-4-slab-collapse-police-oppose-pre-arrest-bail-for-executives-mumbai-court-to-hear-matter-on-feb-25-23617701" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">officials</a> said, according to the PTI.
