Shiv Sena legislator Sanjay Gaikwad stated on Thursday that his assault on a staff member at an MLA hostel canteen, prompted by being served "stale food," while perhaps "harsh," led to immediate government action on the long-standing food quality issue. This swift response came despite numerous prior complaints, reported news agency PTI.

Earlier in the week, a video footage went viral showing the Buldhana MLA slapping and punching an employee at the Akashwani MLAs' hostel canteen in Mumbai on Tuesday night. However, this incident, sparked by "stale food," drew widespread condemnation from both the government and the opposition, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis explicitly denouncing the act.

Furthermore, the Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Wednesday evening suspended the licence of the caterer operating the canteen. This action followed an inspection earlier that day, which revealed violations of food safety regulations.
