IMD issues red alert for Mumbai, adjoining districts amid heavy rain forecast

Despite the heavy rain forecast, Mumbai's infrastructure has largely remained resilient so far. Between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm on Sunday, the city recorded moderate rainfall, with the Western Suburbs receiving the highest average at 53.61 mm, followed by the City region (47.47 mm) and the Eastern Suburbs (37.92 mm)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-alert warning for extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts in Maharashtra on Sunday. According to the forecast, Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad districts are very likely to witness intense weather activity, including lightning and gusty winds at isolated places. All four districts are currently under a red alert.

Additionally, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been placed under an orange alert, while Nashik, including the ghat areas of Nashik and Pune, have also been brought under a red alert due to the likelihood of extreme rainfall in the coming hours.
