Mumbai to host global ‘Climate Week’ in February 2026, announces CM Fadnavis

Delegates from over 30 countries including researchers experts and policymakers will gather in Mumbai next year to discuss actionable strategies to combat climate change at the lsquoMumbai Climate Weekrsquo which will be held from February 17 to 19 2026 news agency PTI reportedAnnouncing the event on Tuesday Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the global conference will highlight Indiarsquos growing leadership in climate action and sustainabilityThe event conceptualised by Project Mumbai will be organised in collaboration with the Maharashtra Environment and Climate Change Department and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex BKC reported PTIAccording to a statement from the Chief Ministerrsquos Office CMO the conference will host delegates primarily from the Global South including countries across Africa Latin America and Asia Participants will deliberate on practical inclusive and financedriven solutions to address climate challengesAt a meeting held at Mantralaya attended by Environment Minister Pankaja Munde BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani department secretary Jayshree Bhoj and Project Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi the Chief Minister unveiled the official logo and introductory film of Mumbai Climate Week PTI reportedFadnavis said the initiative reflects Indiarsquos commitment to building a sustainable and equitable climate future ldquoInspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Mumbai and Maharashtra are ready to contribute toward creating a just innovative and wellfunded climate future for the Global Southrdquo he saidThe threeday conference will focus on food systems energy transition and urban resilience viewed through the lenses of justice innovation and finance Fadnavis stressed the need for collective efforts involving citizens industries and policymakers to mitigate the effects of climate change and set measurable goals for Maharashtra and Mumbai in the climate sectorProject Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi described the event as a milestone for the state and the country emphasising its role in advancing inclusive peopleled solutions for climate resilienceMaharashtra inks 15 MoUs worth Rs 56000 crore at India Maritime Week 2025Maharashtra Chief Minister CM Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced that the state has signed 15 Memorandums of Understanding MoUs worth Rs 56000 crore to boost maritime developmentAccording to the news agency PTI while speaking at the India Maritime Week 2025 Fadnavis said the agreements span port expansion shipyard development technology upgrades and allied maritime activities He did not specify a timeline for implementation but expressed confidence that the investments would help make Maharashtra a ldquomaritime superpowerrdquoldquoThese 15 MoUs represent an investment of Rs 56000 crorerdquo Fadnavis said adding ldquoWith these partnerships we are taking concrete steps toward transforming Maharashtra into Indiarsquos leading maritime hubrdquoAmong the major agreements one has been signed with the Adani Group for the expansion of Dighi Port and the development of a large industrial zone around it in collaboration with the Central government PTI reported The JSW Group has also committed to expanding its facilities at Jaigad Port part of the statersquos 700km coastline to strengthen integration with global supply chainsWith PTI inputs
