Officers said Chaudhary directly contacted Sharma, and warned the comedian of serious consequences if the ransom was not paid

The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a man hailing from West Bengal for allegedly threatening comedian Kapil Sharma and demanding an extortion amount of Rs 1 crore. The accused, identified as Dilip Chaudhary, is said to have used the names of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s associates, Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar, to intimidate Sharma.
According to officials, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, and the accused has been remanded to police custody till September 30. Officers said Chaudhary directly contacted Sharma, and warned the comedian of serious consequences if the ransom was not paid.
