A 30-year-old man was killed after his motorbike hit a pillar on <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-fire-breaks-out-at-godown-no-casualty-23305939" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Ghodbunder Road</a> in Maharashtra's Thane city on Monday morning, an official told news agency PTI.
The two-wheeler then burst into flames, he said.
Authorities were alerted about the accident at around 5.30 am, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-highly-decomposed-body-of-51-year-old-man-found-in-a-flat-23305933" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane Municipal Corporation's</a> disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi told PTI.
The man, from Mira Road area, was proceeding on his motorbike towards Thane on Ghodbunder road when his vehicle dashed against a pillar of the ongoing Metro line work. He fell down and died on the spot, the official told PTI.
Due to the impact of the crash, the motorbike caught fire and was completely charred, he said.
After being alerted, local firemen and the disaster management cell team members rushed to the spot and put out the blaze, the official told PTI.
The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem, he added.
Last week, two persons travelling in a high-end car had a narrow escape when their vehicle caught fire and was completely gutted in Thane city of Maharashtra on Saturday morning, a civic official told PTI.
The incident took place around 7.15 am in Manpada area of the city, he said.
"The car was approaching the lobby area of a building when it caught fire suddenly. Two occupants of the vehicle managed to jump out of it in time," Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) told PTI.
Both of them are safe, he said.
After being alerted, the fire brigade and RDMC personnel rushed to the spot and the fire was doused. "But the car got reduced to ashes by that time," the official told PTI.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, the official told PTI.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a godown in Maharashtra's Thane district in the wee hours of Monday, a civic official told PTI.
No one was injured in the incident, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi told PTI.
The blaze erupted at the godown complex located in Sonale village on the outskirts of Bhiwandi town, he said.
