The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and some parts of Maharashtra including Thane, and Palghar districts over the Independence Day 2025 weekend.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Wednesday by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai, "heavy rainfall was expected in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri on August 16 and 17."

An orange alert was issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, ghats of Pune, Kolhapur and Satara for August 16 and 17.
