The residents are calling for a transparency, accountability and protection of the waterfront as a public open space, said Furkan Shaikh, a protester and social activist told mid-day

He said, “We are not against development, but any development at Carter Road, Bandra must be transparent and in the public interest. The proposal for 35 LED commercial hoardings raises serious concerns about public space, environmental impact, and citizens’ rights. Authorities must clearly state their position and ensure that this iconic public promenade is protected from unnecessary commercialisation”

Formal letters and written objections have been submitted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai Maritime Board, said a Bandra resident 

During the protest, the residents have asked for detailed information about the approvals granted, if any, and whether due process has been followed

Local residents maintain that Carter Road is a vital public promenade used daily by walkers, senior citizens, young people and families

They argue that it should not be converted into a commercial advertising corridor without proper consultation and transparency
