The Italian businessman who was being sought until early 2009 in India for criminal charges for acting as a conduit for bribes in the Bofors scandal passed away in Milan, Italy following a heart attack
Quattrocchi was accused of taking bribes to swing the 1980s Indian arms purchase deal in favor of Swedish arms manufacturers Bofors.
The case against Quattrocchi, known to be close to the family of late Rajiv Gandhi, who was prime minister in 1987 when the bribery scandal broke, has taken tortuous twists and turns after he was named in a CBI chargesheet as the conduit for the Bofors bribe in 1999.
