A 60-foot iron bridge collapsed over a drain in North Delhi's Roop Nagar on Tuesday morning, resulting in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/photo/in-photos-pakistan-afghanistan-war-400-killed-in-pakistani-airstrikes-at-afghanistans-rehab-centre-110171" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">death</a> of a woman, officials said, reported the PTI.
The incident took place when the structure gave way suddenly, causing the woman to fall into the &lsquo;nala&rsquo; below.
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Service, the victim was a woman aged around 50 who was reportedly a homeless person.
She was found in the drain after the collapse and was declared dead at the scene.
The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the incident at approximately 9:30 am, following which several fire tenders were dispatched to the site, according to the PTI.
Rescue operations were carried out by multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/lpg-crisis-delhi-police-issues-advisory-warns-public-of-cyber-fraud-amid-lpg-shortage-concerns-23620676" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Delhi Police</a>, and other emergency teams.
The teams worked together to locate the victim and recover her body from the drain, the news agency reported.
<h2>Area secured, probe underway</h2>
Authorities have since cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety.
Officials said the exact cause of the bridge collapse is not yet known. A detailed inspection and investigation will be conducted to determine what led to the incident, as per the PTI.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, four people were killed, and three others were <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/us-israel-attack-iran-6-killed-142-injured-in-uae-amid-escalating-regional-tensions-says-defence-ministry-23621007" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">injured</a> after a landslide triggered the collapse of a protection wall in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said, reported the ANI.
The deceased were identified as Choki Tasar, Ratan Burman, Godak Raja, and Godak Tabin.
The incident took place at Niti Bihar area in Itanagar on Monday evening when seven people, including a few workers, were working at the site, as per the ANI.
Following the incident, the SDRF team, the police, district administration rushed to the spot and launched a search &amp; rescue operation.
"The rescue team recovered four bodies from the site. Three injured persons were rushed to the hospital," Jumar Basar, SP of Itanagar Capital, told ANI over the phone.
He further said that the injured persons are currently admitted at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/ten-patients-killed-after-fire-at-scb-medical-college-and-hospitals-icu-in-odishas-cuttack-23621006" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">hospital</a>, the news agency reported.
