Recently, Pune was rocked by a so-called ‘rape case’ where a young woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by a courier. The rape complaint filed by a 22-year-old woman claimed that a courier arrived at her door, when she was alone saying he had to deliver some bank documents.
He allegedly then told her he had forgotten a pen, and when she went into the home to bring one, he slipped inside the house and locked the door. He then sprayed her face with a substance, which rendered her unconscious. He then allegedly raped her and when she came to her senses an hour later, he had left home. She then filed a complaint. Outrage followed this report, with locals shocked.
A day later, reports followed that the woman was continually changing her version of the incident, and this ‘courier’ or ‘delivery executive’ was actually a friend. Some say she did complain out of anger. Some reports state she wanted to portray Pune as being unsafe for women.
