Amid all the stories of doom and gloom in the monsoon, there are some that make one want to cheer. Case in point is our report about the downpour, with a school bus marooned in severe waterlogging near Matunga police station. Six children, two women staff members, and the driver were trapped for nearly an hour.
Once alerted, a senior police officer and his team reached the spot and rescued everyone within two minutes, bringing them safely to the police station. The police provided refreshments to the children to comfort them after the ordeal.
While the refreshments are certainly a sweet gesture by our cops, what this shows is that it is always good to alert relevant authorities/agencies when in crisis situations. This is when one has time and opportunity to do so. While concerned and helpful citizens can alleviate certain situations, when one has a chance to draw attention to authorities to effect a rescue or for help needed. Here, it was wise for the people trapped to await some help as the police had the manpower and means to bring the children safely to the police station.
