The police have arrested eight people for allegedly robbing a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/lifestyle/food/article/pune-municipal-corporation-carries-out-demolition-drive-in-the-city-extensions-at-rameshwaram-cafe-demolished-23619461" rel="nofollow">Pune</a>-based man of Rs 5 lakh by posing as police personnel near a railway station at Kalyan in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane district, according to an official quoted by news agency Press Trust of India.
A top police official said the complainant was lured to Kalyan by the accused with a promise of exchanging his Rs 5 lakh cash for higher denomination currency of Rs 7 lakh, earning him a benefit of Rs 2 lakh.
When he went to the spot, lured by the promise of additional money, the scamsters, who were posing as police officers, took his money and vanished.
This is a classic case of brain fade when it comes to being lured with the promise of more money. We just want to warn potential targets that conmen will fail if you use logic, stop to think and analyse their claims.
First of all, why will the police give you more <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/amp/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-citizens-raise-rs-1-5-lakh-to-support-parwez-ali-mother-treatment-23619674" rel="nofollow">money</a>? One should start asking questions about why on earth cops would give you more money?
Why would anybody, in fact, give you more money for no work or anything you have done for them? Why are they luring you to a certain place for the money? You must start seeing red flags as this simply does not add up.
Every con scheme will have certain lacunae or something that seems off and questions that need answers. One of the principles that con games work on is rushing people through so that they do not have enough time to pause or question; they have no time to do a rethink. Take that time away to introspect, ask and research and most probably, this fantastic get-rich-quick scheme will disintegrate.
