Akash Deep etched his name alongside some of India’s finest fast bowlers by becoming only the fifth Indian to claim at least four wickets in each innings of a Test match in England. The 28-year-old seamer achieved the milestone on Sunday during the second Test at Edgbaston.
Akash delivered a telling blow to England’s hopes on the final day by removing both overnight batters, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook, early in the first session. He wrapped up the morning with figures of 4 for 58, after having taken 4 for 88 in the first innings. His exploits added him to a distinguished list featuring Chetan Sharma, Zaheer Khan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, all of whom have recorded similar feats in England.
Whenever an Indian pacer has claimed four or more wickets in both innings of a Test in England, India has never ended up on the losing side. Sharma and Bumrah’s efforts resulted in draws, while Zaheer and Siraj helped secure victories.
