Vijay's film was reportedly leaked online on April 10, triggering a wave of outrage across the film fraternity. An official said the individuals have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Copyright Act, and the Cinematograph Act.

The investigation led to the identification of six individuals allegedly involved in uploading and disseminating pirated copies via cloud storage platforms and sharing drive links.

Sikandar (2025)

Salman Khan's film was reportedly linked to leak rumours even before its release. Online reports claimed that a high-definition version surfaced near its theatrical debut.

Udta Punjab (2016)

Starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh and directed by Abhishek Chaubey, was leaked just two days before its release after a major CBFC controversy. Reports suggested a 40-minute clip with key scenes surfaced online, likely from censor board copies in circulation.

Geetha Govindam (2018) 

Starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna and directed by Parasuram, the romantic drama leaked just before its release. It started with a few scenes and later the full film reportedly surfaced online from a suspected digital copy.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017)

Ahead of its August 11, 2017 release, Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited film was leaked online, prompting the actor to urge fans to support him in the fight against piracy. Reports suggested that the film, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, had surfaced on the internet, with choreographer Remo D’Souza bringing it to the filmmakers’ attention.

Attarintiki Daredi (2013)

Starring Pawan Kalyan and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the 2013 family entertainer built massive expectations among audiences. However, during the planning of its release, the film suffered a major setback when its first half, along with a nearly complete HD version, was leaked online and even circulated on the streets through pirated DVDs and pen drives.

Premam (2015)

The cult Malayalam hit directed by Alphonse Puthren and starring Nivin Pauly and Sai Pallavi, faced an unexpected setback when key portions, including the climax, were leaked during its theatrical run. The leak was reportedly traced back to mishandling of the final print.

Vishwaroopam (2013)

Directed by and starring Kamal Haasan alongside Pooja Kumar, this spy thriller that ran into controversy, leading to protests and a temporary ban in Tamil Nadu. Amid the delay, pirated copies of the film also began circulating online.

Taxiwaala (2018)

Starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Rahul Sankrityan, it faced an unusual leak when an unfinished version of the film surfaced online months before its release. The leaked copy showed green screens, missing music, and incomplete visual effects, likely from the post-production workflow. The makers delayed the release, improved the VFX, and re-released the film, which later became a commercial success.

Shankar Dada MBBS (2004)

Starring Chiranjeevi and directed by Jayanth C. Paranjee, the Telugu remake of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., came during the early era of film piracy. Reports suggested that parts of the movie were copied and circulated before release, likely through internal sources in the production chain.
